I am Jim.

I’m a dad, a husband, a self-taught designer, developer & writer based in Oldham, England.
I currently work for Keytime.

About me

Take lots of tea, a dash of sarcasm and a large dollop of self-deprecation. Mix with a passion for making complexity simpler, a love of words and a reverence for the act of creation.

Ugh. That’s awful. I’m not a fan of writing about myself; all my best work is about others, so this is uncomfortable, but I’ll crack on, and you’ll have to accept my heartfelt apologies for the butchered metaphor. Argh! I’m at it again!

I thrive on finding solutions to problems, and trying to make life easier for the people I encounter. I’m pretty unflappable, and I have good instincts, so people rely on me in a crisis. I fail quickly. I learn faster.

Ok, I’m a fine figure of a man. I’m sure we can all agree on that.

Humanity fascinates me. Learning drives me. My beautiful, intelligent and compassionate daughter and my gorgeous, creative, caring, brave wife inspire me to be a better man.

Web Design

Here’s an additional example of some of the design work I’ve done for the web. More examples and case studies will follow when I finish the portfolios.

Print Design

I’ve designed quite a few pieces, including flyers, exhibition stands, letterheads and brochures for Keytime. I need to take some better photos, so for now I’ll have to link to the PDF version of the brochure.

  2. 24 page A5 brochure. 300gm2 covers with spot UV, 130gm2 interior pages, saddle-stitched.

Technical Writing

I’ve researched, written and designed a number of plain English guides for accountants, on a range of topics. I’ve tried to take the typical sales whitepaper and separate the sales message from the content, to make them more useful to the reader. Here’s a couple of examples:

  2. A guide to the introduction of the Real Time Information pilot, and how it affects payroll processing.

  3. Filing to Companies House
  4. This guide covers filing accounts online to Companies House.

I’ve also written most of the content on the Keytime support portal.
